This sophisticated, quirky and classy restaurant has become talk of the town in just two weeks of its opening. First of all the name is very catchy and by name you can understand that they serve Indian cuisine. Glimpse of molecular gastronomy is visible while the style of serving food is quite unique.
Jaan is located in the Sofitel hotel premises and and is in 31st floor, they offer spectacular skyline view with Burj Khalifa. The ambiance is dark and classy where bar is in the right hand side while entering with lounge seating, and while walking inside you have fine dine area, where usually families enjoy food.
The food started coming in our table and from hand cut rolls section SALMON KEJRIWAL which is blend of cooked egg with smoked mild chili mayo. The other starer was JAHHL MURI CEVICHE on amberjack fish topped with Indian street style jhaal muri, it was little sour for my taste pallet, but was not bad.
Moving ahead we also tried BIG HEAD PRAWNS which is simple butter garlic marination and grilled prawns, was good. HUNTERS’S POUSSIN is clay oven cooked young chicken supreme with basil and cumin, it was tender and yummy. PRAWNS ROLLED IN MEAT tasted good as the combination was good
Now in mains we tried BUTTER CHICKEN with came in a cute tiffin box and it tasted really very nice. SIZZLING CHOLE HUMMUS & AMRITSARI KULCHA chole gravy is made with spices and hummus with kulcha, very authentic. NORMANDIE DAIRY DAAL is actually daal makhani cooked for long time, tasted yummy.
Moving on in dessert we were served FRENCH TOAST SHAHI TUKDA it is served with kulfi and maple cinammon squeeze, which didn’t really impress me much. The other dessert was NIRVANA it is saffron panna cotta with thandai mousse and topped with raspberry pour, delectable and my favorite here.
In cock tail we tried SMOCKING COSMO our classic cosmopolitan drink but with a twist of smoke, it tasted really very nice. The other cock tail was THE KITTY BREWER a soothing blend of vodka, white wine and cranberry juice, very girly drink. To accompany mains KASHMIRI RICE WITH TRUFFLE MUSHROOM, delectable.
Final Verdict – Jaan at the penthouse is new and fresh addition in the fine dine, skyline view restaurant, which has managed to become talk of the town already. I had some hits and misses in terms of food. Service is quick and staff is polite. I loved the unique presentation of food and Indian flavors.
